Most manufacturers recommend an annual maintenance check by certified professional. White film on glass: This is a natural by-product of minerals from natural gas. Cleaning should be done two to three times per year. We have a special gas glass cleaner that will take off the film with very little effort. Look at manufacturer's instructions to take off the glass front. Soot on glass or logs: Usually this means that the fuel-to-air ratio needs to be adjusted. There is likely incorrect log placement. If the logs have been moved, it may cause this problem.
I do not have an outside wall,
can I still use a direct vent?
Will my gas hearth
product still burn if I lose electricity?
Yes. The standing pilots have their own millivolt generator, so the fireplace or stove will work. The fan, which is 110 volt, will not, but you can space heat the area the appliance is located in.
